Moje kowadło – 160kg

Kowadło jest podstawowym narzędziem kowala. Typy kowadeł są rozmaite, jest ich tak wiele, że każdy znajdzie sobie model idelany dla siebie. To jest mój ulubiony kształt, który wraz ze słuszną masą sprawia, że praca na tym kowadle jest przyjemnością. Ten masywny blok żelastwa służył już kilkadziesiąt lat, czego domyślić się można przykładając równą listwę do bitni, która odbiega od pozimu o 6mm. Pomimo tego pracuje się na nim znakomicie. Nabyłem je wiosną 2009 roku i zapłaciłem 800zł, co było zwyczajną ceną za używane kowadło w takim stanie. Podejrzewam, że będzie mi służyć kolejne kilkadziesiąt lat, a potem może jeszcze jednemu kowalowi, gdy przejdę na emeryturę :-)



My anvil – 350lb (160kg)

The anvil is a blacksmith’s basic tool. There are variety of types of anvils, there are so much of them, everyone will find a perfect model for himself (or herself – there are also women – blacksmiths). This one is my favourite shape, which together with it’s weight makes working at it a pleasure. This massive block of iron has served several decades, what can be worked out when something straight is put on its face, which is 1/4inch (6mm) below the level. But it is still a wonderfully working tool. I purchased it on spring 2009 and paid 800zl, which was about 240$, £160, or €180 at that time and that was a common price for second hand anvil in this condition. I suppose it will be working with me for another several decades and then, when I’m retired, maybe with another blacksmith :-)
